Run4Change 2022 – Old Version

WE ARE PREPARING FOR OUR 10TH ANNUAL run4change EVENT! AS IN THE PAST 2 YEARS PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS ELIMINATING MOTHER-TO-CHILD HIV TRANSMISSION IN MOZAMBIQUE

Dear friends, we are looking forward to another great event on April, 3rd, 2022
at our favourite sport facility Sihlhölzli in Zürich. For this 10th edition of our run4change Charity Run we plan to bring back the entertaining and beloved in-person event, and also offer an online run option via app with our partner    as we did last year, for those who would like to decide for themselves when and where to run.

We’re incredibly grateful for all the generous support throughout the years, which has helped us exceed our targets and donate the proceeds to the ones most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Your contributions are making a real change where it is most needed.

As well as last year, all proceeds from the 2022 event will be used to provide medical care and nutrition for DREAM by Community Sant’Egidio’s  project aiming to prevent transmission of AIDS from mother to child in Beira, Mozambique!

Impact of last year’s donations:

Due to the covid-19 pandemic traditional activities carried out by DREAM centers in Beira have been disrupted. But with the help of last year’s donations from our charity run Run4Change Sant’Egidio kindergarten has been reopened last summer to the great joy and delight of its small inhabitants. Another very important facility for the kids, which was also shut down due to the pandemic – the children’s canteenj, has also newly opened its doors to hungry small visitors.

Another great initiative, which resumed recently was the so called “baby food school” – teaching moms how to cook nutritious baby food for weaning babies and taking place once a week at the centre of Manga Chingussura in Beira. This courses provide young mothers with a great deal of confidence how to feed thir babies properly.

Details on the DREAM project:

Hardly recovered from 2019 cyclone Idai Mozambique’s second largest city Beira was struck by another cyclone in January 2021 – Eloise. As many as 400 000 people in Beira and surrounding areas might be affected. DREAM Beira is acting as a shelter for the wider population in addition to its primary mandate to prevent mother to child HIV transmission.

With the proceeds from our 2020 charity run, we were able to benefit from a district grant of CHF 10k to double the positive impact for the community. The total funding provided to DREAM Beira came to approximately CHF 24k. You can read more about how Rotary Zurich International  keeps the DREAM alive at Beira at the Rotary Foundation  webpage.

We’ll be back in touch later this year with an update on the impact your 2021 donations are making.
